Carthage- Joplin Regional Stockyards: Feeder Cattle Weighted Average Report for 05/16/2011

   Compared to last week, yearling feeder steers sold 1.00-2.00 lower with 
yearling heifers trading 1.00-3.00 lower.  Steer calves were 1.00-4.00 lower 
while heifer calf trading was more actively steady to 2.00 lower.  The offering 
included several strings of long yearling steers to fully test the slightly 
lower market.  Weakness on the CME cattle futures continues to pressure cash 
feeders with May contracts soon to mature.  Demand and supplies were both 
moderate as the ground has now firmed-up locally and temperatures unseasonably 
cool.  Receipts included 54 percent steers, 41 percent heifers, and 5 percent 
feeder bulls.  Near 47 percent of the cattle were over 600 lbs.
