Verona advances two to state meet

Monday, May 16, 2011

For the first time since 2002, the Verona track program qualified athletes for state competition in Jefferson City this Friday and Saturday.

"I am proud of all of our athletes and our entire track team this year," said Verona Coach Brad Stewart. "It was a great day for both Wesley (Kissinger) and Cody (Ernsberger). Wes qualified on his last attempt in the long jump and made it by an inch."

Kissinger recorded a jump of 17'9', which lifted him into fourth place at the sectional meet, which was held at Cass-Midway High School on Saturday.

Ernsberger finished fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.94. He also took fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 17.9.

Events at the state meet are set to begin at noon on Friday.
