Purdy Eagles sweep doubleheader from Galena

The Purdy Eagles baseball team (18-4) swept a doubleheader from Galena on Tuesday.

"It took us three innings to get our bats rolling," said Purdy Coach Joshua Hughes. "It was a good warm-up for our district contest."

In game one, Purdy fell behind 2-0 in the third inning. The Eagles flew into the lead in the fourth inning, scoring six runs.

Galena tallied three runs in the top of the sixth to trim the lead to 6-5. Purdy's Riley Veith would slam the door shut with a grand slam in the bottom half of the sixth to provide the Eagles with a 10-5 victory.

Reese Stevenson picked up the win. He pitched five innings, allowed three earned runs and struck out nine. Landon Terry picked up the two-inning save. Veith finished three for four at the plate with four RBI. Stevenson and Cameron Terry added two RBI apiece.

Game two

In the night cap of the twin bill, Purdy prevailed 13-5.

Junior Devon Bennett made his varsity pitching debut for the Eagles.

Bennett allow three runs in Galena's first at-bat. The Eagles' offense picked him up and scored seven times in the first inning, once in the second and four times in the third.

Stevenson continued his hot hitting streak with a perfect four-for-four and five-RBI performance at the plate. Cody Hall was three for four with four RBI. Both Hall and Stevenson had home runs for the Eagles.

Bennett picked up the win, allowing five earned runs and striking out eight in three and two-thirds innings of work.

Purdy will host Clever tonight. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
