Verona qualifies for sectionals

The small town of Verona is full of big surprises these days.

On Saturday at Willard, the Verona Wildcats quaiified five athletes in six different events for sectional competition at Cass Midway this Saturday.

"It was a great day for Verona track," said Verona Coach Brad Stewart. "Qualifying all of our boys for sectionals was a huge step in the right direction for our program. Cody Ernsberger and Wesley Kissinger both received four medals, and Colt Pruente added three. In the boys division, were in the top four in every event we entered."

The top four in each event qualified for the sectional meet. Results for the Wildcats were as follows:

First place

* 200-meter dash: Ernsberger, 24.2.

Second place

* 4x200-meter relay: Pruente, Larry Patterson, Kissinger and Ernsberger, 1:38.8.

* 4x100-meter relay: Pruente, Seth Losack, Kissinger and Ernsberger, 47.7.

* 100-meter dash: Ernsberger, 11.7.

Third place

* Triple jump: Kissinger, 36'4".

* Long jump: Kissinger, 18'4".

Fourth place

* 100-meter dash: Pruente, 12.0.

Sectional events are slated to begin at 11 a.m.
