Verona High School and Pierce City HIgh School have released the names of their top graduating seniors for 2011.
According to Terry Winton, VHS principal, Daisy Fernandez, daughter of Juan and Onorina Fernandez, has been named valedictorian, and Nathaniel Cochran, son of Karen and Steven Cochran, is salutatorian.
Baccaulaureate services for Verona's graduating class will be held at 6:30 p.m. tonight (Wednesday, May 11) at Verona First Baptist Church.
Commencement ceremonies are planned for 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 14 in the Verona High School gym.
Pierce City graduation
Jackie Nelson, school counselor, has announced honor graduates for the Class of 2011 at Pierce City High School.
Valedictorian for the class is Bethany Parrigon, daughter of Jeff and Marcia Parrigon. Nao Vang, daughter of Chia and Mai Vang, is the salutatorian.
Other members of the Top 10 of the class, in order, are: Abby Ashley, Andrew Schlup, Azia Donnini, Mackenzie Brittain, Chloe Phillips, Bethany Phillips, Jessica Haddix and Chelsi Curtis.
There will be 55 members in the graduating class. Baccalaureate and commencement will be held on Sunday, May 15 in the high school gym. The Pierce City Ministerial Alliance will host baccalaureate at 4 p.m., and graduation will be held at 6 p.m.
Crystal Charles, who teaches history and serves as faculty sponsor for the National Honor Society chapter, has been selected by the graduates as the speaker in addition to speeches by the valedictorian and salutatorian.
