Monett netters blank Bulldogs

The Monett Cubs tennis team (5-2) picked up a 9-0 victory over Carl Junction on Wednesday.

"The boys are really playing good tennis at the right time of the year," said Monett Tennis Coach Bob Crain. "We have a shot to win a district title if we continue our high level of play."

In singles action, Monett's Alex Hall defeated Troy Lawson, 8-3. Shane George prevailed over Andrew Gloshen, 8-2. Chris Trout edged Garrett Easson, 8-3. Caleb McCurry handled Kurry Mertens, 8-2. Andres DeLeon topped Nathaniel Demery, 8-1, and Abraham Mejia sank Clayton Sloniker, 8-1.

In doubles play, Hall and George defeated Lawson and Easson, 8-6. Trout and McCurry prevailed 8-0 over Gloshen and Sloniker. DeLeon and Mejia won 8-4 over Mertens and Demery, 8-4.

The Monett tennis team will begin district play on Tuesday at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin. Matches are set to begin at 2 p.m.
