Monett police and firefighters responded to a one-vehicle crash at 4:45 p.m. off Highway 60 in Monett. Monett Police Lieutenant Greg Brandsma said the driver of a 2003 Kia Rio was westbound on Highway 60. According to witnesses, the vehicle was observed weaving in traffic and the driver appeared to be leaning over. The vehicle struck and proceeded against the highway guardrail, then went over the rail and down the embankment, stopping next to the railroad tracks running beside Waldensian Road. The driver, identified only as a rural Wentworth man, was airlifted for treatment to St. John's hospital-Joplin. Firefighters used extrication equipment and Barry-Lawrence Ambulance personnel assisted in the response. [Times Photo by Murray Bishoff]
