Area residents are being asked to "Give a Hoot" and join in a 5K run and one mile walk to benefit the American Cancer Society. The event will be held in conjunction with the upcoming Relay for Life in Monett on Saturday, May 21.
The Give a Hoot run/walk is open to anyone, and no sponsors are needed. An entry fee of $20, accompanied by a pre-registration form, will secure the participant's place in the race and T-shirt for the event. Pre-registration deadline is May 13. Residents can continue to register after May 13 up through the day of the event, however a T-shirt can't be guaranteed.
"We want to offer people the opportunity to change things up a bit and provide a bit of variety during the Relay for Life," said Beth Luebbering, event co-organizer.
The Give a Hoot run/walk will kick off at 11:59 p.m. on May 21 at Cleveland and the intermediate school drive. The run/walk will start at the parking lot and proceed west on Sycamore Street to Highway H and ends at the football field where this year's Relay event is being held. Participants will have yellow reflective vests to wear while running or walking on the city streets.
Awards will be presented to the top male and female finisher in each of six age divisions for the 5K run. Divisions are as follows: under 19; 20-29; 30-39: 40-49: 50-59; and 60 and over. Refreshments will be available at a half-way point during the race and at the football field at its the nd of the race.
