Drive honors a hero

Monday, May 2, 2011

Forty-four people gave blood at the April American Red Cross blood drive held at the Countryside Christian Church in Monett.

Each donor received a free gift for their donation. The blood drive was in honor of U.S. Army Specialist Christopher Glenn Stark. Stark, age 22, was killed in action on Feb. 28 in COP Tangi, Afghanistan.

Teresa Stark, his mother, made a surprise visit to the blood drive thanking everyone for remembering Christopher. KY3 also visited the drive and did a special in honor of the fallen soldier. A card was signed by all of the donors and mailed to Teresa Stark.

Donna Beckett, bloodmobile chairman, noted three-gallon marks were reached. Among those receiving gallon pens were: Mark Nelson, two gallons; Gerry Bounds, 13 gallons; and Donna Beckett, 19 gallons. Karen Brosi was a first-time donor.
