The Monett golf team took third place at the Missouri Class 3, District 6 playoffs on Friday.
"We went into the match thinking that Carl Junction and Webb City were the teams to beat," said Monett Golf Coach Derrek Uhl. "Logan-Rogersville and Republic came out of nowhere to win the championship. I am proud of our boys. We missed the team qualifying by four strokes, and we missed four players going onto sectionals by two strokes. Golf is a crazy game."
Logan-Rogersville won the meet, shooting a 354. Republic recorded a 354, and Monett tallied 356.
Monett's Jacob Fair was the tournament's medalist, shooting a seven-over-par 78 at Eagle Creek in Joplin. Devin Steward and Travis Thompson also qualified for sectional play for the Cubs.
The golf team will hit the links on Wednesday at Marshfield for sectional playoff action. Groups begin teeing off at 9 a.m.
The Purdy golf team won the Missouri Class 1, District 5 title on Friday.
The tournament victory is the first in school history.
"We finished in third place at district last year," said Purdy Golf Coach Grant Young. "We returned all of our starters from last season. The boys worked very hard in the offseason to reach this level."
Purdy shot a 381 to take the title. College Heights finished in second place with 420. Marion C. Early High School finished in third place and recorded a 464.
All of Purdy's golfers were named to the All-District team.
Phillip Roller finished in third place, and Alex Haworth took fourth. Brady Wormington was the ninth high individual, and Garen Nelson finished tied for 11th.
The Eagles will be in action on Wednesday in the sectional playoff round at Joplin's Schifferdecker Park. The top two teams and top 12 individuals advance to the state championship. Groups are set to tee off at 9 a.m.
