Monett netters down Republic

Thursday, April 28, 2011

Mother Nature let up just enough for the Monett tennis team to squeeze in a 6-3 victory over Republic on Tuesday.

"The boys did pretty well for not having hit for a week," said Monett Head Coach Bob Crain. "It took us a little bit to knock off the rust, but the boys responded well."

In singles action, Chris Ttrout prevailed over Austin Bryan 8-0. Caleb McCurry defeated Eddy Elvio 8-2. Andres DeLeon topped William Hyde 8-0, and Abraham Mejia handled Robert Groves 8-0.

In doubles play, Trout and McCurry defeated Bryan and Elvio 8-3, and DeLeon and Mejia topped Hyde and Groves 8-0.

The tennis Cubs are in action Thursday (today) at Bolivar. Match play is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
