The City of Verona now has a new police officer.
Aldermen have hired Michael Jackson, a Christian County deputy sheriff who worked in the jail division since July 2008, to serve as a second patrol officer for the city. Jackson was in charge of night shift training, booking and jail monitoring of the 140-bed facility.
Jackson received his law enforcement education at Drury Law Enforcement Academy in Springfield. He graduated in 2008.
Jackson will start at $9 per hour on a 35-hour week schedule until he passes his 90-day probationary period. He will then be moved up to 40 hours.
