Blood drive to honor Christopher Stark

Thursday, April 14, 2011

The American Red Cross will be holding a memorial blood drive in memory of United States Army Specialist Christopher Glenn Stark. Stark, age 22, was killed in action on Feb. 28 in COP Tangi, Afghanistan. Stark was the son of Teresa (Brown) Stark and the late Jeffrey Allen Stark. He was a 2007 Monett High School graduate.

The memorial blood drive will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. on Monday, April 18 at Countryside Christian Church, located at 1200 N. Eisenhower in Monett.

"We have dedicated this blood drive to Chris' memory," said Donna Beckett, American Red Cross bloodmobile chairman of Monett. "We will have a card where donors can sign saying they donated in his honor. The card will be sent to Stark's mother."

According to Beckett, the blood drive will be the same but Stark's picture will be there with the card to sign.

"Chris had donated blood a couple of times while he was in high school," said Beckett. "We thought perhaps some of his friends from high school would want to donate in his honor.

"I talked to Teresa Stark," Beckett continued, "she was very excited about it and said that she knows he would be honored by looking down seeing that the blood drive was in his honor. He would be proud."
