The Monett Cubs golf team moved within one win of securing a Big 8 Conference championship on Tuesday.
The Cubs defeated Lamar, Seneca and Aurora in match play.
Monett's Jacob Fair was the meet medalist, shooting an even par on the par-36 link. Devin Steward tallied a three- over-par 39 and finished second. Travis Thompson finished in fourth with a 43. Tyler Bass and Bryan Beckwith recorded a 49 and 56 respectively.
"We will need to play better to compete for the conference championship," said Monett Coach Derrek Uhl. "It was good to see the course, and I am excited to see the boys excel."
The Monett golf team placed second out of 17 teams and a total of 84 golfers at the Bolivar Invitational on Monday.
"I was very happy with how we scored as a team," said Monett Head Coach Derrek Uhl. "If we can shave a couple strokes, we will be in contention at the end of the season for some major awards."
Warrensburg finished in first place on the par-72 course, shooting 313. Monett recorded a 322, and Branson tallied a 333 in third place.
Individually, the Cubs had three golfers place in the top five. Jacob Fair finished in second place with a one-over- par 73. Travis Thompson recorded a 76 and finished in third place. Devin Steward shot a 77 and placed fifth. Tyler Bass finished with a 96 ,and Bryan Beckwith scored a 101.
Monett will be in action on Thursday at Aurora. Groups begin teeing off at 3:30 p.m.
