Purdy Lady Eagles Head Coach Grant Young was named the 2011 Missouri Class 2 Coach of the Year by the Missouri Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association (MSSA) and the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association (MBCA).
"I'm honored," said Young. "The credit however, should go to the 12 girls on my team. I didn't score one point or have one assist this season. The girls did all the work; they were a great group to be around."
Young coached the Lady Eagles to a 26-6 record this season and captured the school's second state title and first since 1981 with a 55-49 win over Couch.
For their efforts this season, Purdy's Shelby White and Addy Roller were named to the Missouri Class 2 All-State first team by both the MSSA and MBCA.
"Great players make great coaches," said Young. "Addy was a great leader for us on the floor. Her poise and confidence help make the team run as an efficient unit.
"Shelby is a very gifted athlete," continued Young. "She had the ability to take over a game at any point. She was not afraid to carry this team. She is just a competitor."
Roller averaged 16.4 points per game for the Lady Eagles. She dished out 160 assists and collected 87 rebounds on the season.
White averaged 15.5 points per game for Purdy. She collected 284 rebounds and dished out 64 assists on the season.
"I have so many people to thank," said Young. "The school district, my players, Assistant Coach Jennifer Schallert, the fans and most of all my family. It's hard to put into words all of my feelings, I am so appreciative for the support and love that I have received. I have been blessed."
