Joplin Regional Stockyards: Cow and Bull Auction Close for 3/30/11

Receipts:  1103    Last Week:  1607    Last Year:  865

   Compared to last Wednesday, slaughter cows sold 3.00-4.00 higher and
slaughter bulls sold 2.00-3.00 higher. Following a substantial increase
last week slaughter prices continued the upward trend today. As slaughter
prices reach new highs, buyers of take home cows must dig deeper and in-
crease the amount they are willing to pay in order to be the successful
bidder. The offering included several dispersals that provided a good
selection of bred cows. Supply was moderate and demand very good for
slaughter classes.

   Bred Cows:  Medium and Large 1-2  2 yrs to short and solid mouth 2nd
and 3rd stage 1000-1355 lbs most 925.00-1185.00, better quality blacks 3rd
stage 1325.00-1375.00, 1st stage 900-1250 lbs most 860.00-1075.00, pkg. black
and black white face 1160.00; broken mouth to aged 2nd and 3rd stage 1100-1260

lb cows w/babies to 150 lb calves 985.00-1200.00. Medium 1-2  5-6 yrs 980-
1000 lb cows w/150-265 lb calves and a few rebred 1200.00-1325.00; short
and solid mouth 1000-1050 lb cows w/baby calves 900.00-1025.00; broken
mouth to aged 825-1000 lb cows w/babies to 160 lb calves 825.00-935.00.
