Joplin Regional Stockyards: Cow and Bull Auction Close for 3/23/11

   Compared to last Wednesday, the bulk of breaking and boning slaughter cows
sold 2.00-3.00 higher with some high-dressing 4.00-5.00 higher and lean cows
sold 1.00-2.00 higher while slaughter bulls sold steady to 1.00 higher.
Slaughter buyers were very aggressive and prices strengthened as the sale pro-
gressed. Several herd dispersals provide a heavy supply of bred cows and cow/
calf pairs. Supply was heavy and demand very good for slaughter classes.

most 88.00-97.00, few 101.00-112.50; 3-7 yrs few 965-1215 lb 75.00-85.00.

   Bred Cows:  Medium and Large 1-2  2 yrs to short and solid mouth 2nd
and 3rd stage 1000-1350 lbs from dispersals 1175.00-1335.00, singles and
small lots 900.00-1125.00, 1st stage 1075-1250 lbs from dispersals 1160.00-
1250.00, balance 900.00-1125.00; short and solid mouth to aged 2nd and 3rd
stage 1150-1325 lbs 750.00-885.00. Large 1-2  4 yrs to short and solid mouth
2nd and 3rd stage 1400-1550 lbs 975.00-1250.00. Medium and Large 2  2 yrs to
short and solid mouth 2nd and 3rd stage 945-1150 lbs 785.00—825.00. Medium
1-2  3-6 yrs 1st and 2nd stage 900-1000 lbs 700.00-825.00.

   Cow/Calf Pairs:  Medium and Large 1-2  2 yrs to short and solid mouth
1000-1300 lb cows w/babies to 395 lb calves and some rebred most 1125.00-
1350.00, several from dispersals w/250-385 lb calves and all cows rebred
1375.00-1450.00; short and solid mouth to aged 1125-1300 lb cows w/babies
to 300 lb calves w/few rebred 1085.00-1275.00. Large 1-2  5-7 yrs 1385-1425
lb cows w/300-425 lb calves and all rebred 1610.00-1735.00. Medium and Large
2  7 yrs to short and solid mouth 1075-1150 lb cows w/babies to 250 lb calves
900.00-1175.00; broken mouth pkg. 1100 lb cows w/190-250 lb calves 985.00.
Medium 1-2  2-6 yrs 875-1000 lb cows w/babies to 325 lb calves few rebred
