Missouri Weekly Hay Summary Week ending 3/11/11

Thursday, March 10, 2011

Winter weather still has a stronghold on most of the state as temperatures are
averaging below normal and rainfall this past week above normal. Delivery of
hay a major problem as getting trucks to the hay pile or barn nearly impossible.
Rising fuel prices a big concern as truckers are asking higher prices for
delivery, and back-haul trucks are becoming increasingly hard to find. Beef
cattle producers counting and recounting current supplies of hay to see if
they have enough to get to grass. Even though we have to “spring” our clocks
forward this weekend and the calendar says that spring is only a week away,
one would be hard pressed to convince most in this state that grass is just
around the corner. Hay prices this week are mostly steady. Supply and
demand of hay is moderate. Missouri Department of Agriculture has a hay
