Two years after sales tax income to the bi-county area took a nose dive as the economic downturn sunk in locally, sales tax income in February showed the biggest rise compared to a year ago in seven months. Nine of 13 cities recorded gains, including Monett.
Monett's two sales taxes for general expenses generated $127,220.95, a gain of $11,713.73 over last February. It was the best February since the 2008 record that ran $9,000 higher. The city's four sales taxes received $20,113.57 more than a year ago, more than erasing the $7,000 dip in January.
