The Monett Lady Cubs battled back from an eight-point deficit in the fourth quarter but fell 49-48 to the McDonald County Lady Mustangs Saturday night in the championship game of the Missouri Class 4, District 12 playoffs.

"I told the girls afterwards that it was only one game," said Monett Head Coach Derrek Uhl. "It doesn't take away from all we accomplished this season. These girls left everything they had on the court tonight."

Monett trailed 37-29 with 5:45 remaining in the contest before four free throws by Lady Cubs' Madison Carlin cut the gap to four with 4:28 to go in the game.

The Lady Mustangs maintained a 49-45 lead with 42.7 seconds remaining when Carlin sunk two more free throws. McDonald County missed a shot and the Lady Cubs rebounded with 10.7 seconds remaining trailing by two points.

Monett attacked the rim and was rewarded when Hunter Glouse was fouled on her shot attempt with 1.2 seconds remaining.

Glouse's first offering rimmed out and she hit the second shot. McDonald County inbounded the ball and held on as the final second ticked off, securing the win.

"We didn't lose the game at the end," said Uhl. "Only managing to score five points in the third quarter really hurt. We have some big holes to fill in our lineup for next season but I believe we have the player who can step up and be a factor."

Glouse scored 19 to lead the Lady Cubs. Also scoring for Monett were: Carlin, 17 points; Jenny Frazier, 7 points; Danielle Neill, 3 points; and Amanda McKinney, 2 points.
