Monett teen seriously hurt in weekend crash north of city

Monday, February 28, 2011

A Monett teenager was seriously hurt in a one-vehicle crash on a county road one mile north of Monett on Sunday afternoon.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Dillion R. Freudenthal, 17, was airlifted to Cox South Hospital in Springfield with serious injuries after the 2009 Honda Element he was driving slid off the side of the roadway, struck a utility pole and overturned.

A passenger in Freudenthal's vehicle, Cody M. Hartman, 18, of Monett, received minor injuries in the crash.

The Patrol report indicated that Freudenthal, who was not wearing a seat belt, was driving too fast for the conditions of the road. Hartman was buckled up when the crash occurred at 4:40 p.m. on Lawrence County Road 1070.
