The Barry-Lawrence Area United Fund has awarded a $2,500 grant to the Barry-Lawrence Regional Library. The check was presented to Jean Berg, director of the regional library, by Ken Dudzik, United Fund president, and Lisa Balmas, United Fund treasurer. Pictured above, from left, are: Balmas, Berg and Dudzik. A young library user, Dawson Lewis, is shown in the foreground of the photo using one of the library's learning station computers. The grant money will be used to help provide matching funds for a Gates Foundation grant for the purchase of 36 new computers for public access to the Internet in regional library branches. Several of the computers purchased through the Gates grant have been installed and include preloaded educational softwar for young children, like the one young Dawson is shown using. "The United Fund is very to provide funding for new computer equipment to be used by children and adults who otherwise may not have access to their use," said Dudzik. "In addition, we were very eager to support the acquisition of the Early Learning Stations to be used by area children."
