The 2011 Monett Cubs' basketball season came to a conclusion Tuesday night with a 55-36 loss to the McDonald County Mustangs.

"It was a frustrating evening," said Monett Head Coach Ty Goetz. "We played great on defense. When you hold your opponent to 55 points, you give yourself a chance to win. We just couldn't hit a bucket. We had plenty of good looks; the ball wouldn't go in."

Monett trailed 13-11 at the end of the first period and 27-17 at halftime.

Tyler Green led Monett in scoring with 12 points. Also scoring for Monett were: Kyle Woods, 9 points; Chris Eimer, 6 points; Jarred Witt, 6 points; and Christian Wooldridge and Trenton Pierce; 2 points each.

"We say goodbye to our seniors, but we still have a solid nucleus returning next season," said Goetz. "We need to pick up the ball and play as much as we can in the off-season to get ready for next year."

Monett finishes the season with a 5-20 record overall and 2-5 in Big 8 Conference play.
