Missouri Weekly Hay Summary Week ending 2/25/11

It finally seems as if the long cold days of winter are past for this 
season. Spring thaw has arrived with ample amounts of mud being all that 
remains from winter snow, ice, and sleet. Farmers are counting down the 
feeding days and looking towards green grass. Producers are also thinking 
about the growing season ahead acres to be used, spring planting, and 
fertilizer application. USDA will soon begin contacting many farmers 
gathering data for the 2011 Planting Intentions Report to be released 
late March, which will likely yield the same results as the past few 
years with slight acres lost to grain crops. Hay movement has been good 
with large amounts of hay having been fed this winter and most delayed 
orders now getting caught up. Hay prices this week are mostly steady. 
Supply and demand of hay is moderate. Missouri Department of Agriculture
