Carl Stark

Carl Stark, age 94, of Monett, MO, passed from this life on Monday, on Feb. 21, 2011 at his residence after a short illness.

Carl was born in Verona, MO on September 25, 1916, the son of the late Richard Stark and Sue (Black) Stark.

Carl was raised in the Pleasant Ridge area and had attended school at the Pleasant Ridge School. He and his brothers were in the automobile business, selling cars for more than 50 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Monett, where he enjoyed singing in the choir. Singing was a family pastime growing up, he and his brothers and sisters were known as the Stark Quartet. He was also a cattle farmer and had enjoyed fishing around the Shell Knob area.

On Oct. 4, 1952 in Fort Worth, Texas, Carl and Lois Deane Henson were united in marriage. They enjoyed over 57 years together. Carl and Deane were blessed with one son, David. The Lord brought David into their lives when he was a week old.

Carl was preceded in death by his wife, Deane, and his son, David. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Leo and Wayne Stark; three sisters, Stella Smith, Etha Powell and Mildred Kenney.

He is survived by three nephews: Steve Henson and wife, Carla, of Pierce City, MO, Gary Henson and wife, Susie, of California, Tim Thomas, of Houston, Texas; four nieces: Susie Hemphill and husband, Charles, of Harrison, AR, Cathy Strickland and husband, Rex, of Springfield, MO, Theresa Thomas, of Los Angeles, CA, Debbie Gaydou and husband, Ellis, of Pierce City; one brother-in-law: Bill Henson and wife, Virginia, of Pierce City; one sister-in-law: Shirley Thomas, of Sarasota, FL; and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Stark will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011 at Buchanan Funeral Home with Dr. Bill Cox and Rev. M.E. Fitzpatrick officiating. Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Monett. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. prior to the service on Thursday. Memorial contributions have been requested to the First Baptist Church Building Fund or to the American Heart Association in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are under the personal care of Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett, MO.
