LaVerna Lea Bowers, age 71, of Monett, Mo., passed away at 2:40 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 21, 2011 at the Lacoba Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.
LaVerna was born on Nov. 23, 1939 in Mindenmines, Mo., one of 13 children born to the late Addison Pleasant Vaughn and Jessie May (Finley) Vaughn. She had attended and graduated from Carl Junction High School in Carl Junction, Mo. LaVerna was an independent caregiver for many years, taking care of the elderly. She had attended the Living Water Fellowship Church in Stark City, Mo. LaVerna enjoyed the beauty of nature. Her strength derived from reading of the promises of the Bible. She loved praying for and lifting others up. The greatest joy in her life came from her grandchildren.
On Nov. 9, 1956 in Maimi, Okla., LaVerna married Loyd Mullins. He preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death was a daughter, Virginia Booth.
She is survived by one son: Loyd "Buddy" Mullins, of Webb City, Mo.; two daughters: Valerie Graham and husband, Travis, of Monett, and Rhonda Plummer, of Monett; two brothers: Riley M. Vaughn and Bill L. Vaughn, both of Joplin, Mo.; two sisters: Laverta Hatton, of Webb City, Mo., and Joan Vigil and husband, John, of Denver, Co.; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and special friend of the family, Connie Darch, of Stark City, Mo.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 25, 2011 at Buchanan Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Copley officiating. Interment will follow in the IOOF Cemetery in Monett. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
