The Monett Cubs wrestling team had a productive first day in Columbia at the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Class 2 state tournament.
Monett's Chase Brennan, Ethan Davis and Chris Renteria advanced to the quarterfinals by pinning their first round opponent.
Carter Huffmaster and Clayton Patton each fell in their first round match but picked up wins in their afternoon contests.

"All in all we had a good day," said Monett Head Coach Daryl Bradley. "Carter and Clayton ran into top-ranked wrestlers in their opening round matches. They competed very hard. It says a lot about the mental toughness they possess to be able to come back and pick up wins."
The Cubs are still in the hunt for a top 10 finish.
"I think we can pick up some bonus points today," said Bradley. "We'll have to wrestle well to accomplish our goal."
The Cubs will be on the mat at 9 a.m. this morning. Monett's first and second round results can be found on www.monett-times.com.
