Monett's Travis Thompson made the most of his first varsity start. Thompson, who had only scored 20 points all season, matched his season point production with 20 as Monett picked up a 73-60 win over Lamar Friday.

"Travis (Thompson) is the type of guy who can score," said Monett Head Coach Ty Goetz. "He usually provides us a spark off the bench. Tonight he showed what he is capable of doing."

The 73 points were a season high for the Cubs. Monett also hit 10 3-pointers in the contest.

Monett was tied at 21 at the end of the first quarter and outscored Lamar 18-11 in the second to lead 39-32 at halftime.

"We played all four quarters tonight," said Goetz. "We played well on the boards against a team who had some big bodies on the floor. Our bench stepped up and played some big minutes for us."

Kyle Woods led Monett in scoring with 25 points. Thompson tallied 20 points. Trenton Peirce added 8 points. Chris Eimer chipped in 7 points. Jacob Fair contributed 6 points. Jarred Witt finished with 4 points. Christian Wooldridge recorded 2 points, and Devin Steward notched 1 point.

Monett travels to Diamond on Tuesday. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m.
