Springfield-Springfield Livestock Marketing Center: Cow and Bull Auction Close for 1/31/2011

Receipts:  860    Last Week:  475    Last Year:  235

   Compared last Monday, slaughter cows sold 2.00 higher and slaughter bulls
sold steady. Strong prices for both slaughter cows and replacement cows con-
tinue to draw large receipts. The attendance at the auction dwindled rapidly
around noon as a major snow storm was forecast to move into the area during
the evening and night time hours. The supply of bred cows was very heavy and
the supply of cow/calf pairs was light. Supply was heavy and demand good for
slaughter classes.

1265 lb cows w/baby calves 1035.00-1075.00; broken mouth pkg. 1090 lb cows
w/140-165 lb calves 685.00. Large 1-2  5 yrs several 1425-1675 lb cows w/
260-350 lb calves 1350.00-1500.00. Medium and Large 2  6 yr 1120 lb cow w/
baby calf 725.00. Medium 1-2  6 yr 910 lb cow w/295 lb calf 1135.00 per pair.
