Many post offices in Missouri, including those in Monett, Cassville and Mt. Vernon, have original paintings hanging in them. Carleen Shanks told Monett Kiwanians this week how the artwork was made possible through the Treasury Department in the 1930s.
Shanks, who has lived in Monett since 2001, enjoys perusing flea markets and became intrigued with artwork created under President Franklin Roosevelt's Works Progress Administration (WPA) from collectibles she had discovered.
