Security is theme of chief's talk

Thursday, January 20, 2011

Monett Police Chief Tim Schweder reviewed local police preparedness in light of the shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords in Tucson, Ariz. His presentation was offered at this month's Monett Kiwanis meeting.

Schweder said the standard for how local police respond to shooting incidents developed out of the March 6, 1999, shooting at Columbine High School in Douglas County, Colo. Monett police were subsequently equipped with automatic and semi-automatic weapons as well as bulletproof vests. Officers also received additional training.
