Monett Cubs wrestling tournament a success

The Monett wrestling Cubs finished sixth out of 13 teams at the 39th annual Monett Wrestling Tournament on Saturday. Reeds Spring, Bolivar and South Moore (Okla.) finished first, second and third respectively.

"The tournament was a great success," said Monett Head Coach Daryl Bradley. "I thought we started slow and had a tough first round, but we started to wrestle very well throughout the rest of the day. "It was good to see how we stacked up against other district competition," bradley added.

Monett individual results were as follows:

* 103 pounds: Chase Brennan, first place.

* 112 pounds: Levi Neely, sixth place.

* 112 pounds: Tyler Liggett, fifth place.

* 119 pounds: Bryan Beckwith, second place.

* 125 pounds: Brice Watson, sixth place.

* 130 pounds: Kylar Eden, fifth place.

* 135 pounds: Chris Renteria, third place.

* 140 pounds: Juan Renteria, sixth place.

* 145 pounds: Ethan Davis, first place.

*145 pounds: James Ross, first place.

* 152 pounds: Carter Huffmaster, fourth place.

* 160 pounds: Clayton Patton, second place.

* 171 pounds: Zack Irwin, second place.

Davis was named the tournament's Outstanding Wrestler.

"We won and lost some key matches, but I told the team its only January and by February we will be wrestling at our best," Bradley said. "I would like to thank everyone that came and supported the team. It's always a great tournament, but it was a tough tournament with lots of good wrestling."

The wrestling Cubs will be in action with a double dual in Nixa against Carl Junction and Nixa Thursday, and will be in Branson this Saturday.

Wrestling action is slated to begin at 5:30 p.m.
