After having their seven-game winning streak snapped in the Neosho Holiday Tournament, the Monett Lady Cubs basketball team has bounced back with two road wins.
The Lady Cubs won 51-37 over Diamond Thursday night and improved to 9-4 on the season.
"We needed to get these wins this week to get back on track," said Monett Head Coach Derrek Uhl. "Every win is great but to be able to go on the road and pick up a pair of wins, especially before conference play begins, in huge."
Monett came out a little sluggish in the first four minutes of play against Diamond and trailed 7-5 at the 4:48 mark of the first quarter. The Lady Cubs eventually woke up and finished the quarter on a 10-4 run to take a 15-9 lead. Monett extended the lead in the second quarter and took a 25-16 advantage into halftime.
The Lady Cubs hit eight treys and played opportunistically on the defensive end forcing 17 Lady Wildcat turnovers.
"Teams are starting to play more zone defense against us," said Uhl. "We were able to hit our 3-pointers tonight and played well in our half court defense."
Monett extended their advantage to 39-28 at the end of the third quarter, but Uhl said there is still room for improvement.
"When you can hold a team to 28 points after three quarters of play, you are playing good defense," added Uhl. "The scary thing is we could have played better defense. We gave up too many offensive boards, which led to second chance points."
Hunter Glouse led the Lady Cubs in scoring with 19 points. Madison Carlin chipped in 12 points. Dedre Beckett added 8 points. Amanda McKinney tallied 6 points, and Danielle Neill and Jenny Frazier finished with 3 points apiece.
The Lady Cubs will be in action Monday night at Carl Junction. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m.
