The 2011 Mocha Jo's Idol contest will begin on Saturday, Jan. 15 and continue for the next two Saturday nights on Jan. 22 and Jan. 29.
Contrary to what was reported in yesterday's issue of The Monett Times, the final list of contestants for the 2011 contest has not been determined. Michaela Wallace and Whitney Dahlstrom both competed in 2010 and have not committed to participating in the 2011 contest.
The contest is still open to area singers. Contestants can sing any solo song of their choice and can accompany themselves with a single instrument or using a CD accompaniment. The Mocha Jo's sound system must be used. Mocha Jo's will provide a vocal microphone, a second microphone for instrument amplification and a CD player for accompaniment songs.
Mocha Jo's will make their stage open each Saturday afternoon so contestants can practice and do sound checks. A Mocha Jo's employee will be available to run the sound system and keep a record of volume levels for Saturday night performances.
|A panel of judges will rate the contestants to determine who moves on to the next night of competition. The number of contestants who sign up will determine how many advance from the first night of competition on Jan. 15 to the second night on Jan. 22. The final night of the contest on Jan. 29 will feature the top three singers who will vie for the title of Mocha Jo's Idol.||Applications for the contest are still available. The deadline to sign up is Wednesday, Jan. 12. Applications can be picked up and submitted at Mocha Jo's, located at 404 E. Broadway in Monett.|
All contestants will receive a Mocha Jo's T-shirt, and the winner of the Mocha Jo's Idol contest will have their name engraved on a plaque that will be displayed at the business.
