The Monett Area YMCA is within reach of receiving a $2 million dollar matching grant from the J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation, Inc., of Tulsa, Okla..

In order to receive the grant, the YMCA needs to raise a total of $8 million in cash and pledges by Jan. 13, and the local organization is within $75,000.00 of this goal. YMCA Executive Director Gordon Brown stated,

"If we fall short of the goal at all, we will receive nothing from the grant," said YMCA Executive Director Gordon Brown.

"We really want to express our thanks to all of the people who have given to this project," emphasized Brown.

If it receives the Mabee Grant, the YMCA will have a total of $10 million to fund the new Monett Area YMCA. "This grant will put us into position to move forward with construction documents so that we can break ground in 2011," Brown added.

The YMCA will continue to raise funds to help equip and finish parts of the project not included at the $10 million level.

"I feel very blessed to be involved in this project. We are going to have a wonderful facility to serve the community," said Brown.
