The Monett Cubs basketball team ended the Neosho Holiday Tournament on a high note last Wednesday, defeating Diamond 38-37.
Monett led 9-2 at the end of the first quarter. Diamond battled back to tie the contest at halftime.
"Defensively, I thought we played one of our better games all season," said Monett Head Coach Ty Goetz. "Holding a team to two points in a quarter is something to build on. Offensively, we could have played a little better, but Diamond did a good job of taking us out of what we wanted to do."
Monett was anchored by Kyle Woods with 17 points and 7 rebounds. Tyler Green recorded 8 points, 2 rebounds and 2 steals. Jacob Fair chipped in 3 points. Trenton Peirce contributed 2 points and 6 rebounds. Christian Wooldridge, Devin Steward, Dillon Freudenthal and Jarred Witt scored 2 points apiece.
"I think we improved every game in the tournament," said Goetz. "We are excited about our conference schedule coming up."
