Friday, December 31, 2010

The Pierce City Eagles fell 39-37 to East Newton Wednesday night in the Southwest Holiday Tournament.

"Defensively, we played great," said Pierce City Head Coach Matt Street. "Holding the Patriots to 39 points showed we played hard. We just couldn't hit our shots."

The Eagles fell behind 11-6 at the end of the first quarter and trailed 19-17 at the intermission. East Newton owned the third quarter, outscoring Pierce City 11-4.

The Eagles would close the gap in the fourth quarter but couldn't get the tying shot to fall.

Pierce City was led in scoring by Wayne Joe Sooter with 13 points. Derek Turner added 9 points. Cedric O'Hara and Cody Fitchpatrick tallied 6 points apiece. Chance Chapman finished with 2 points.

The Eagles will be in action on Friday, Jan. 7, 2011, against Purdy.
