Missouri Weekly Hay Summary Week ending 12/24/10

Friday, December 24, 2010

With the official arrival of winter and just slightly over a week left in
the year many farmers are doing their books and checking them twice making
most of the next two weeks decisions based the tax year. The supply of hay
is currently moderate, however farmers who havenít secured enough hay for
this feeding season should at very least keep up to date as dryness to the
east and also lack of wheat pastures to the west is resulting in more hay
being used earlier in the feeding season in the neighboring states.
Depending on the length of the feeding season this could have an effect on
both the amount of hay available to be trucked in as well as the cost.
Statewide hay prices are steady demand is moderate to light. Missouri
Department of Agriculture has a hay directory available for both buyers and
sellers. To be listed, or for a directory, visit
