Robert Dale Short, age 74, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 4:35 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2010, at the Missouri Veteran's Home in Mt. Vernon. He was born on Aug. 17, 1936 in Leann, Missouri, the son of Lloyd Leo and Letha Inez (McCubbin) Short.
Robert lived his entire life in the Lawrence County community and was a 1954 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School. On Aug. 2, 1958, he married Marie Ann Planchon in Monett. In 1993, after 38 years of dedicated service, Robert retired from Silgan, formerly the Carnation Can Company. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.
Robert's most enjoyable days were spent with his family on Table Rock Lake, having breakfast with his former co-workers and restoring his 1932 Ford Coupe. He was a true family man and will be dearly missed.
Those surviving him include: his wife, Marie of the home; one son: Mark Short and his wife, Melisssa; one daughter: Anne Garoutte and her husband, Joe, all of Mt. Vernon; one brother, Richard Short, and his wife, Maxine, of Ballwin, Missouri; two grandchildren: Jonathan Mulligan and his wife, Ashley, of Ridgedale, Missouri, and Calder Garoutte, of Mt. Vernon; and one great grandson: Robert Cash.
His parents preceded him in death.
A funeral service, under the direction of the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 24, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Freistatt with burial at the Mt. Vernon IOOF Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 23 at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church or the Missouri Veteran's Home in care of the funeral home.
