Christmas events, concerts, plays slated in four states Dec. 17-23

This week in Monett: At Mocha Jo's, 404 E. Broadway, Brandon Turk will perform an acoustic set at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Phil Greer and Emily (Greer) Berger will offer bluegrass and gospel music beginning at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Mocha Jo's closes at 3 p.m. on Saturday for a private party.

At Denali Dreams, 318 E. Broadway, Hell's Enemy plays at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. A book signing is planned from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday with at least three area authors.

This week in Springfield: The Springfield Ballet's production of Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker" runs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and 6 p.m. on Sunday at the Landers Theatre, 715 E. Walnut.

A holiday ice show will be offered at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Mediacom Ice Park, 635 E. Trafficway.

The Springfield Regional Opera Theatre under director Amy Muchnick, and Chamber Orchestra of the Ozarks, the Sweet Adelines Jazz Quartet and more present a concert of Christmas music at 2 p.m. on Sunday at First Baptist Church, 525 S. Avenue.

The Springfield Playhouse production of "Frosty, The Christmas Snowman Carol" will be given at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Skinny Improv Theatre, 301 Park Central East.

At the Outland Ballroom, 326 South Ave., performing will be Dan Magnum's eighth annual Rock n Roll Christmas on Friday; Springtown Heroes on Saturday; and Bush Hawg on Dec. 21.

"Beacon in the Night," a Christmas play by Ron Boutwell, runs through Dec. 18 at the Stained Glass Theatre, 1996 W. Evangel in Ozark.

This week in northwest Ark.: A touring production of the musical "Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein" has shows at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday and 7 p.m. on Sunday at the Walton Arts Center, 495 Dickson in Fayetteville.

At George's Majestic Lounge, 519 W. Dickson in Fayetteville, performing this week are the Nace Brothers, the Odds and Silverstone on Friday and Speakeasy on Saturday.

The Jack Mitchell Big Band offers music of the season at 7 p.m. on Saturday at the Rogers Little Theater, 116 S. 2nd St. in Rogers.

The "Home for the Holidays" Concert is offered on Friday at 7 p.m. at the Eureka Springs Auditorium, 36 S. Main downtown.

This week in Joplin: Joplin Little Theatre's production of "If It's Monday It Must Be Christmas" runs through Sunday at 3009 W. 1st St. Auditions will be held Dec. 21 and 22 for the Joplin Little Theater's production of Sondheim's "Into the Woods." Auditions are at 7 p.m.

The Stained Glass Theatre's live production of "It's A Wonderful Life" has shows at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday at 1318 W. 26th St. Ticket information is at 417-624-1982.

At the Downstream Casino, west of Joplin, performing will be Retrorockerz on Friday; Solid Gold on Saturday; plus Darrel Cole and Transcontinental with country music on Saturday.

In Carthage, at the Woodshed Emporium, on the northwest corner of the square, live bluegrass music will be played at 7:30 p.m. on Friday by New Dogs Old Tricks and the Missouri Mountain Gang. Admission is $5.

This week in Miami, Okla.: At the Buffalo Run Casino, Matt Snell and the Crashers perform on Friday.

Frank Capra's film "It's A Wonderful Life" will be shown at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Coleman theatre, 103 N. Main.

This week in Tulsa, Okla.: At the Tulsa Performing Arts Center, 110 E. 2nd St., Tulsa Ballet's production of Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker" at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday and again next weekend. Tickets are $15 to $65. The American Theatre Company's version of Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" has performances at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, 2 p.m. on Sunday, and 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 21 to 23. Tickets are $30.

Natasha Bedingfield, Hanson, Mike Posner and others perform for the Jingle Ball at 7:15 p.m. on Saturday at the Mabee Center, 7777 S. Lewis Ave. Tickets are $35 and $40.

At Cain's Ballroom, 423 N. Main, performing are NeedToBreathe and the Daylights on Friday; the Red Dirt Rangers, Stoney LaRue, Turnpike Troubadours and three more Red Dirt bands on Saturday; Hellyeah, Hail the Villain, A New Revolution and Crooked X on Sunday; and Johnny Polygon and Mac Lethal on Dec. 23.

David Phelps performs at 7 p.m. on Sunday at the Broken Arrow Arts and Humanities Council, 601 S. Main.

This week in Pittsburg, Kan.: Ronnie Milsap performs at Christmas concert on Dec. 21 at Memorial Hall, 503 N. Pine.

This week in Kansas City: On Friday, NeedToBreathe plays at the Beaumont Club, 4050 Pennsylvania Ave. Kenny G performs at 8 p.m. at the Midland Theater, 1228 Main. Encoded, Phaded, MC Zulu and Fstz perform at the Uptown Theater, 3700 Broadway.

On Saturday, the Daylights play at the Beaumont Club. HellYeah plays at the Midland Theatre. Crazyboy, Jae Casino, Bayou Boss, Skee and KHAOS play at the Uptown Theater.

On Sunday, a sing-along performance of Handel's "Messiah" will be given at 4:30 p.m. at Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral, 13th and Broadway.

The Kansas City Ballet presents Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker" at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, 2 p.m. on Saturday, 1 and 5 p.m. on Sunday, at the Music Hall, 301 W. 13th St. Tickets are $30 to $100.

The Kansas City Symphony and Chorus, Kansas City Brass, Allegro Children's Choir and Rezound Handbell Ensemble present a concert of Christmas music at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, 2 and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, and 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Lyric Theater, 11th and Central.

Joe Satriani plays at the Uptown Theater at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 20.

Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" presented by the Kansas City Repertory Theatre runs through Dec. 26 at the Spencer Theatre on the University of Missouri campus, 4949 Cherry St.

"A Very Joan Crawford Christmas" is presented at the Unicorn Theatre, 3828 Main, at 8 and 11 p.m. on Friday, 6 p.m. Saturday, 8 p.m. Sunday and Monday, and at 3 and 7 p.m. Dec. 22 to 24.

"Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day: the Musical" runs through Dec. 31 at the Coterie Theatre, Grand and Pershing in Crown Center.

"Plaid Tidings," a Christmas concert by the Plaids quartet, is offered through Dec. 26 at the American Heartland Theatre, 2450 Grand Blvd in Crown Center.

The annual celebration "Christmas in Song" runs through Dec. 26 at the Quality Hill Playhouse, 303 W. 10th St.

Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker" will be performed at 10 a.m. on Friday, noon on Saturday and Sunday at the Liberty Performing Arts Theatre, 1600 S. Withers Road.

This week in St. Louis: On Friday, Johnny Mathis offers his Christmas concert at the Fox Theatre, 527 N. Grand. At the Casa Loma Ballroom, 3354 Iowa Ave., a benefit dance for the Salvation Army featuring Brave Combo and the Javier Mendoza Band is at 8 p.m.

On Saturday, Mannheim Steamroller gives its Christmas concert at the Fox Theatre. Tickets are $37.50 to $52.50. The Younger Brothers play at the Casa Loma Ballroom.

On Sunday, the Alexandra Ballet presents "The Nutcracker" at 2 and 6 p.m. on the Purser Center at Logan College.

The St. Louis Symphony and St. Louis Children's Choirs offer a concert of Christmas music with Broadway vocalist Christiane Noll at 2 and 7:30 p.m. on Friday, 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday at Powell Hall, Delmar and Grand.

The St. Louis Ballet presents Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker" through Dec. 23 at the Touhill Performing Arts Center on the University of Missouri campus. Shows are at 7 p.m. with 2 p.m. matinees on Friday, Saturday and Dec. 22 and 23. Tickets are $25 to $47.

Cirque Dreams Holidaze dance and theatre show is offered Dec. 21 to 29 at the Fox Theatre.

Repertory Theatre of St. Louis presents Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker" with the Imaginary Theatre Company at the Loretto-Hilton Center on the Webster University campus in Webster Groves. The only non-sold-out shows are at 2 p.m. on Dec. 20 and 21.

At the Pageant, 6161 Delmar, performing are the El Monstero: Beyond the Wall tour, sold out except for Dec. 22.
