The Monett Middle School Lady Cubs' eighth grade basketball team defeated Cassville 25-18 in the Big 8 Conference Tournamnet last Saturday.
"The first half of the game we were getting tons of steals and looks but did not capitalize," said Monett Head Coach Amy Sampson. "In the third quarter, we finally started taking the ball to the basket off of our steals and pulled ahead very quickly."
Brooke Madison led the Lady Cubs in scoring with 10 points. Brooke Burnside chipped in 5 points. Brooke McLean added 4 points. Haylee Morris, Allie Krueger and Megan Ballay contributed 2 points apiece.
"The girls did a great job tonight," said Sampson "We're ready to work hard to win the consolation game on Friday against Lamar."
The Monett Middle School Lady Cubs' seventh grade basketball team fell 26-24 to Mt. Vernon last Saturday in the Big 8 Conference Tournament.
"We ended our season last night on a high note," sadi Monett Head Coach Joni Reid. "It was probably one of the best games the girls have played all season. They played hard defense, ran the offense and did all that was asked of them."
The leading scorer was Aubrey Parker with 5 points. Katie Tinklepaugh, Lakin English and Lauren Brown each added 4 points. Ashton Ratliff and Lauren Bass finished with 2 points each.
"The season was truly a learning experience," added Reid. "The girls learned a lot about playing as a team and how to play at a competitive level. We had a great end to a season. I am very proud of the way we ended."
