Below normal temperatures again this week, with a little snow and a little freezing rain, along with gale force winds just letting everyone know that we are still officially in fall and winter doesn’t begin until next week. All of this fall weather forcing cattlemen to supplemental feed forages and most having to add some expensive energy to their rations. Most cattle producers still in good shape with plenty of big rounds still sitting in the corner of the fields as we have only started the feeding phase of this year. State wide hay supply is moderate, currently demand moderate to light, and hay prices are steady. Missouri Department of Agriculture has a hay directory available for both buyers and sellers.
