A number of candidates stepped forward to run for school and city offices in the April 5, 2011, election. Filing opened yesterday and remains open until Jan. 18, 2011.
In the Monett R-1 School District, four-term incumbent David Beckett filed for another term. Darren Bass, who ran last year, was the other candidate to file on the first day. The other incumbents are Rod Anderson and Scott Beckwith.
In the Verona R-7 School District, four candidates filed. Nine-term incumbent Roger Bandy is joined in the race by former city council member DeDe Hutson and first-time candidates Louis Carrasquillo and Mary Hesemann. The other incumbents are Ed Kristek and YaVonne Koehler.
In the Purdy R-2 School District, three-term incumbent Ronnie Veith filed for another term. He was joined by first-time candidate Alexandria Efremidou (Miller). The other incumbents are Russ Neill and Mike Bennett.
Four candidates filed for city council seats in Pierce City. A race developed for the Ward 2 seat between Brian Jones, who is presently serving his second consecutive term, and first-time candidate April Ottavian.
In Ward 4, incumbent Cory Sooter was at the end of a two-year term and Brandon Raley, appointed to the position, will have a one-year vacancy left from his seat. Instead of seeking the same jobs, Sooter filed for the one-year position and Raley filed for the two-year seat. The other incumbents are David Jones in Ward 1, and Julie Garner and Melissa Creed in Ward 3.
In Verona, Mayor Lloyd Airrington filed to keep his job as mayor and run for a full term. Incumbent at-large alderman Sheila Massengill filed for the one-year vacancy. The other incumbent is Gary Welters.
In Freistatt, incumbent Eva Jobe filed for a second term on the village board of trustees. The other incumbents are Brian Paynter and Elmer Conway.
