Monett Christmas parade growing

Friday, December 10, 2010

Preparations are complete for Monett's Christmas parade on Saturday. The pomp and pageantry will begin at 10 a.m. and head west down Broadway.

"We've gotten a lot of people coming back this year," said Leonard Witt, Monett Chamber of Commerce parade chairman. "There will be around 70 units in all."

The parade will include five high school bands, from Monett, Wheaton, Pierce City, Sarcoxie and Purdy. Around 20 floats have now signed up to participate. Four Shriner groups will be on hand. An equestrian group from Mt. Vernon has also signed up this week.

Heno Head will provide the color narration from the judge's grandstand at Fourth and Broadway.

"I think we've got a real good lineup," Witt said. "We'll have a lot of floats, a lot of churches and stores and others represented. I'm excited for it."
