The Pierce City Eagles defeated the Wheaton Bulldogs 51-48 in overtime Tuesday night in Wheaton.
Pierce City trailed 26-21 at halftime before rallying in the second half to force overtime.
"We didn't play our best basketball," said Pierce City Head Coach Matt Street. "We got into foul trouble early and that doesn't allow us to be as aggressive as we would like to be.
"We had a tough time scoring, and our defense gave up some open looks," said Street. "We found a way to win. I think that says a lot about our team that we can play like we did and still find a way to win"
Pierce City was led in scoring by Derek Turner with 16 points. Robert Baldwin scored 12 points. Wayne Joe Sooter chipped in 7 points. Cedric O'Hara and Cody Fitchpatrick each added 6 points. Chance Chapman finished with 4 points.
"We were able to knock down some big free throws when it counted," added Street. "Our defense stepped up and didn't allow them a good look at the basket at the end of overtime. This is an important win for us, because we could meet Wheaton again in the Southwest Holiday and Crane tournaments."
The Eagles play at Billings Friday night. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
