The Purdy Lady Eagles fell to Mt. Vernon 62-54 Saturday in the Aurora Lady Houn' Tournament.
"I am very proud of my team," said Purdy Coach Grant Young. "We never gave up and battled the entire game. Mt. Vernon is a great team and hit several big shots."
Mt. Vernon led 18-17 at the end of the first quarter and 32-21 at halftime. Purdy would close the gap to 7 with six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter but could not get any closer.
"We have a very challenging schedule this season," said Young. "We want to take this game and use it as a learning tool, grow from it and apply those lessons learn to our future matches."
Purdy was led in scoring by Addy Roller with 21 points. Shelby White scored 15 points. Brooke Swadley chipped in 9 points. Audrey Patton contributed 5 points. Brittany Mareth added 4 points.
"We are going to find a lot of things out about this team next week," added Young. "I think we will respond positively to our first set back. This is a very strong willed team, I enjoy coaching them."
The Lady Eagles will be in action Tuesday, Dec. 7 at McAuley.
The Purdy Eagles basketball team split a pair of games in the Crane Invitational. On Saturday, the Eagles fell 61-56 to Chadwick.
"We played real well for three quarters," said Purdy Head Coach Tommy Egan. "We had too many turnovers and gave up too many easy baskets in the fourth quarter."
Devon Bennett was Purdy's leading scorer with had 15 points.
On Friday night Purdy defeated Clever 57-24. Landon Terry had 26 points to lead the Eagles in scoring. Terry and Bennett were name to the All-Tournament team.
