MMS basketball update

The Monett Lady Cubs eighth grade basketball team (4-7) continues to roll along. On Tuesday night, the Lady Cubs fell to the Marionville Lady Comets 51-16.

"We started out really strong," said Monett Coach Amy Sampson. "In fact, it was the best start we have had all season. After four minutes, we got behind and never caught back up. We have to believe and be confident that we can play with and beat teams that are really good like Marionville."

Leading scorers for Monett were: Abby Krueger, 4 points; Brooke McLean, 4 points; Allie Krueger, 3 points; Brooke Madison, 2 points; Kendall Bounous, 2 points; and Megan Ballay, 1 point.

"The girls are right there and have full capability to be one of the best teams around," said Sampson. "I'm hoping the girls really take this week hard and learn that they can get the win if they only believe and work hard to achieve."

On Monday night, the MMS eighth grade Lady Cubs fell 29-12 to Carl Junction.

Leading scorer for the Cubs was Allie Krueger with 6 points. Bounous, McLean and Abby Krueger each chipped in 2 points.

Seventh Grade

The MMS seventh grade basketball team (3-7) dropped a pair of game this week to Marionville and Carl Junction.

On Tuesday night, the Lady Cubs fell 20-11 to Marionville.

Leading scorers for Monett were: Aubrey Parker, 6 points; Lauren Brown, 3 points; Ginna Verhoff, Lakin English, Makenzie Braden and Grace Cloud, 2 points each; and Taylor Rhea, 1 point.

On Monday night, the Lady Cubs fell 42-6 to Carl Junction.

Scoring for Monett were: Verhoff, English and Brown with 2 points each.The MMS Lady Cubs seventh and eigthth grade teams will be in action Monday night at East Newton.
