Mr. Nolan Richard Meier, 80, of Monett, passed away at his home on Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010. He was born on Aug. 6, 1930 in Alton, Illinois to Richard and Ruby (Herron) Meier. He was united in marriage to Betty Goodman on Dec. 22, 1953.
Nolan graduated from Purdy High School Class of 1949 and then attended Monett Jr. College. He was a retired dairy farmer. He was an active member of the St. John's Lutheran Church of Stones Prairie Parish and served as a charter member of the Monett Rural Fire and the University of Missouri Dairy Advisory Boards. He also was on the boards of Mid-Am Dairy, Monett Farmers Co-op, UMB Bank and Lutheran Fire and Lightening Insurance.
Nolan is survived by his wife, Betty, along with three sons: Monte and wife, Drussie Meier, of Ardmore, Okla., Mike and wife, Janan Meier, of Monett and Marty and wife, Sherry Meier, of Monett; one daughter: Marnita and husband, Charles Phelps, of Monett; one sister: Maxine and husband, Alvin Schad, of Monett; three nieces: Virginia Moudy, of Bois D'Arc; Vickie Sims, of Springfield and Vonna Farris, of Purdy; 12 grandchildren: Drew Meier, Darren Meier, Cale Meier, Meagan Meier, Lucas Meier, Robert Butts, Lindsay Craig, Jared Wormington, Brandon Wormington, Amanda Schnelle, Jason Phelps and Alysia Phelps and 12 great-grandchildren.
Nolan was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Ruby, as well as his step-father, Otto Buchholz and niece Viva Jackson.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010 at Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home in Monett. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010 at St. John's Stones Prairie Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery in Stones Prairie near Purdy, Mo.
