Martha "Alice" Majors, 71, of Monett, MO, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010, while at Benchmark Healthcare of Monett. Alice was born Sept. 10, 1939 in Pleasant Ridge, MO. She was the daughter of Joseph Swadley and Marjorie (Eaden) Allcock.
During her lifetime, Alice worked in a garment factory; she was a waitress at the Broadway Inn and she owned and operated a child daycare out of her home. She enjoyed sewing, embroidery and reading. Alice was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Pierce City.
On June 4, 1960 in Butterfield, MO, Alice married Charles Majors. To this union two daughters were born. Alice is survived by her husband, Charles, of the home; two daughters: Robbie Lakins, of Crane, MO and Jackie Majors, of Monett; one granddaughter: Chayann Lakins; two brothers: Tommy Allcock and wife, Judy, of Monett and Bobby Allcock, of Sapulpa, OK; one sister: Joyce Clevenhagen, of Rogersville, MO; two aunts: Geraldine Houck, of Cape Fair, MO and Patty Davidson and husband, Vern, of Butterfield, MO; numerous nieces and nephews; and her beloved granddog, Zoe. Alice was preceded in death by her parents; two infant brothers; and her son-in-law, Bobby Lakins.
Alice was known by all as a wonderful mother, grandmother, friend, helper, and homemaker. She always provided warmth and a loving home for her family and friends. She will be greatly missed.
Funeral services for Mrs. Majors will be held at Buchanan Funeral Home at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010 with Rev. Greg Boll officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Interment will be in the Calton Cemetery, southeast of Monett. Memorial contributions can be made to the Humane Society of Springfield in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett.
