Mr. Paul Marvin Shepherd, age 79, of Joplin, Mo., formerly of Purdy, Mo., passed away on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010 at his home. He was born May 14, 1931 in Purdy, Mo. to Roy and Elmira (Swaffar) Shepherd. He was united in marriage with Mary Mitchell on October 4, 1985 in Grandview, Mo.
Paul retired from State Farm Insurance as an agent in Raytown, Mo. He served in the United States Navy on the USS Walker during the Korean War. He was a member of the Byers Avenue United Methodist Church in Joplin and a life-time member of the Joplin VFW.
Paul is survived by his wife, Mary, along with three sons: Stephen, of Lewisville, Texas; Marvin, of Rogers, Ark. and James, of Carthage, Mo.; one daughter: Sarah Powell, of Leawood, Kan.; two step-daughters: Corinna Gambetta, of Kansas City, Mo. and Amber Barber, of Leawood, Kan.; two sisters: Evelyn Hardwick, of Purdy, Mo. and Marilyn Windhausen, of Kansas City, Mo.; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Tuesday Nov. 23, 2010 at Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home in Monett, with services to begin at 3:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Arnhart Cemetery near Purdy.
